1 August2007 - \\Tornado\shipdata\3Dreplay\Software This directory contains the installer scripts for installing the recommended Windows software for viewing MBARI 3D Replays Save the 3 files to your hard disk (if viewing from a browser you may need to right-click and 'select Save Link As...'): - cb32d48.exe - cosmo_win95nt_eng.exe - GeoVRML1_1.exe Install the software in this order: 1. Netscape 4.8 - file: cb32d48.exe Notes: - Launch and quit Netscape after installing - Correct entries for email servers, etc. are not critical for using Netscape for just viewing 3D Replays. - NOTE: Many web pages (including the default home page that loads when you first start Netscape) contain CSS instructions that cause it to crash instantly. To fix this navigate to a page that contains no CSS and set it as your default home page - a good one to set as your default is the Advanced Search for the Expedition database: http://mww.mbari.org/expd/log/postcruise.asp?search=advanced Once you get this page to load set it as your defalt home: Edit -> Preferences... -> Navigator -> Use Current Page 2. CosmoPlayer 2.2.1 - file: cosmo_win95nt_eng.exe Notes: - Select only 'Other (unsupported browsers)' - Select only 'Netscape Browser - Unsupported Version' - On the next dialog window browse to this directory: C:\Program files\netscape\communicator\program\plugins - Accept defaults for the rest of the installer - Read the release notes and test the installation by running the 'chomp" application. 3. GeoVRML 1.1 - file: GeoVRML1_1.exe - Accept all defaults - A reboot is required in order to have your classpath environment variable properly set. You may use your preferred browser for navigating the Expedition Database. If you have a dive (or dives) that you would like to see in 3D Replay copy the url from the 'Construct 3D Replay' page into Netscape and click the 'Generate 3D Replay' button in Netscape. Hint: Save a URL like this as your home page for Netscape and just edit the URL to pick the dive(s) you want to visualize: http://mww.mbari.org/3Dreplay/3D.asp?dives=vnta2999&dives=vnta3000 You will need to enter you domain account (use "shore\") and password to get content from CanyonHead. -- Mike McCann Software Engineer Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute 7700 Sandholdt Road Moss Landing, CA 95039-9644 Voice: 831.775.1769 Fax: 831.775.1736 http://www.mbari.org
